Recipe by Yummy Medley

I typically don’t care much for papaya, but after my longtime Haitian roommate made me this delicious papaya drink, I opened my mind to picking it up every time it is in season. Haitians make the best fruit smoothies in my opinion, and this papaya smoothie was my gateway to the world of delicious Haitian fruit blends. This smoothie is like a lighter take on a milkshake; the papaya and milk add a nice creaminess to the smoothie, reminiscent of a milkshake without the high calorie count.


  • 4 cups of cubed cold ripe papaya (not frozen)
  • 12 oz/ 1.5 cups evaporated milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar  (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • zest from half a lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

In a blender, chuck in all the ingredients, blend until smooth, and serve. Be sure to drink this smoothie immediately as it doesn’t store too well.
