World Bank Young Professionals Program

The 2018 Application cycle for the Young Professionals Program is open from June 14 – July 28, 2017

The Young Professionals Program (YPP) is a starting point for an exciting career at the World Bank Group (WBG). It is a unique opportunity for younger talent who have both a passion for international development and the leadership potential to grow in fascinating top technical and managerial roles in the World Bank Group.

Eligibility

The following are the minimum requirements to be eligible for the Young Professionals Program.

  • Citizenship of a member country of the World Bank Group
  • Be born on or after October 1, 1985
  • A PhD or Master’s degree and relevant work experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Full proficiency in one or more of the WBG’s working languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish is desired but not required
  • Specialization in a field relevant to the WBG Technical/Operations such as economics, finance, education, public health, social sciences, engineering, urban planning, agriculture, natural resources, and others
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience related to development or continued academic study at the doctoral level

The Social Innovators Programme (SIP) is a one-year fellowship which supports talented young social innovators – youth change-makers – whose ideas and initiatives offer effective and creative solutions to the challenges in local communities across Nigeria. Their initiatives cover many aspects of society, such as Agriculture, Business and Economic Development, Education, Science and Technology, Health, Law and Human Rights, among others.

The Social Innovators Programme (SIP) is a one-year fellowship which supports talented young social innovators – youth change-makers – whose ideas and initiatives offer effective and creative solutions to the challenges in local communities across Nigeria. Their initiatives cover many aspects of society, such as Agriculture, Business and Economic Development, Education, Science and Technology, Health, Law and Human Rights, among others.

During the fellowship period, selected young leaders are equipped with the personal and organizational leadership skills, networking support, and advocacy needed to strengthen and expand the reach and depth of their projects within their target communities. These fellows also join IYF’s global YouthActionNet® community of over 1,100 young social innovators being supported by 21 national and regional institutes like the Social Innovators Programme (SIP).

Eligibility

  • Youth between 18 and 35 years, whose ideas and initiatives offer effective solutions to challenges in local communities across Nigeria.
  • Applicants must be Initiators/ Co-founders of the named project/venture/enterprise/ Foundation.
  • Social enterprise must be contributing positively to the lives of people in their local communities.
  • Social enterprise must be located in Nigeria.
  • Applicants must be able to show proof of work done and impact beyond 12 months prior to application.

MIT ImpactLabs 2017 Summer Opportunity for Nigerians

Deadline: July 7, 2017

 ImpactLabs is an initiative launched by students and graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University in 2014 when we launched the first summer camp at the University of Lagos. In 2015, we were joined by the Technology Innovation Labs (TIL) of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Nigeria. Our instructors bring varied expertise in engineering design and software. During our camps, the participants gain hands-on experience combining techniques in software and engineering design into real-life technology

The 2017 program will be residential and will take place between August 14-25, 2017 at the University of Benin, Benin, Edo, State

Eligibility

  • Resides in Nigeria
  • Currently in an academic level anywhere between S.S 1 (high school) and 300 level (university)
  • All concentrations are welcome. We encourage applicants with some interest in engineering.

Women in Africa (WIA) Entrepreneurship HUB

The Entrepreneurs’ Hub is an exhibition space dedicated to women entrepreneurs during the WIA Club Annual Meeting/Regional meetings. It provides 15 to 20 women entrepreneurs with great visibility and access to high-level decision-makers and investors’ network.

WIA will elect and invite high potential African women entrepreneurs to pitch or have an exhibition space during the next Women In Africa Club Annual Meeting that will take place from 25-27 September 2017 in Marrakesh.

Eligibility

The companies or initiatives meeting the following criteria can apply to the Entrepreneurs’ Hub:

  • Companies or initiatives based in one of the 54 African countries.
  • Created or managed by an African woman.
  • With a strong market traction (turnover, number of users, funds raised)

DAAD Postgraduate Scholarships 2018-19 (Fully-Funded)

Deadline: Ongoing

DAAD scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialised countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany

Eligibility- Graduates with at least two years’ professional experience.

Awards:

  • Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 750 euros for graduates or 1,000 euros for doctoral candidates
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

2018 WYA Africa Vanessa Cherese Scholarship

World Youth Alliance (WYA) Africa opens the 2017 search for a passionate, committed, and dedicated WYA member from Africa who will represent WYA Africa in the first batch of WYA Global Internship Program (January-April, 2018) and 15th International Solidarity Forum (March 2018) in New York City. Successful completion of WYA’s Certified Training Program and Regional Internship Program in the WYA Africa regional office in Nairobi, Kenya are prerequisites to apply.

The chosen WYA member will receive the Vanessa Cherese Scholarship which includes:

  • 3-month project management and advocacy training at the WYA Headquarters in New York
  • Opportunity to represent the WYA Africa region in the International Solidarity Forum
  • Roundtrip economy class flight tickets from the airport of departure to New York, USA
  • Shared room accommodations with facilities in New York (a value of approximately $4,500)

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship in South Africa

Commonwealth is offering four scholarships are available, starting in January/February 2018 for Master’s study only .

The scholarships provide full tuition fees, a return economy flight, an arrival allowance and a regular stipend (living allowance).
