The versatility of ankara cannot be overemphasized. Its ability to be used not only in clothing, but also in accessories, shoes, and bags, speaks to its beauty. In this shoot, we hit the city adorned in pieces from the Styled by Ayiba collection.
Crop tops! Crop tops are very much in fashion and even more trendy in an ankara print! High-waisted bottoms are the default style option for crop tops because they offer extra cover up. Here, the structured orange crop is paired with dark blue high-waisted pants and chunky black heels. Since the top is the focal point, we played it up by using darker colors in the rest of the outfit.
For a flirty date-night look, a cute floral off-the-shoulder crop, like the one above, can be worn over a dress. To contrast the flowy crop, a tight fitting dress or high-waisted skirt would work best.
Accessories! In the second look, I am wearing a white dress, an oversized sweater, and a hat. It’s a simple outfit until I add the statement hoop necklace from the collection. The necklace stands out against the dress, but is toned down by the black sweater and hat. The matching bag is a functional addition to the outfit and is in itself a statement piece.
Functional pieces like the ankara bag and laptop case can be easily incorporated into a student or corporate wardrobe. These work best with more monotone or neutral outfits and serve as the center of the ensemble. In addition to being gorgeous and unique, they tend to also be great conversation starters—people will want to know where you got your ankara pieces.
