Introducing Mystique Afrique sponsored by Vlisco
I curated a space for African and Caribbean artistic expression during Toronto’s foremost contemporary art event, Nuit Blanche. Over 130 young creatives joined me for an intimate evening of live music, signature cocktails, authentic bites, art, fashion, and culture. The experience was designed to be both immersive and interactive, transporting guests to a dream tropical destination to re-live Africa in the 70’s with our ICONIC AFRICA theme.
Ayiba partnered with Vlisco, a luxury dutch fabric brand to create exclusive artwork and a collection inspired their signature bold patterns. We also invited a several Toronto-based visual, popular, and musical artists to engage and entertain.
The night was an amazing success. This was most apparent in the mood of the night, the laughter that filled the air and smiles that graced the faces of everyone in the room. I am proud of what was accomplished because several people throughout the night told me that after years in Toronto, they had never been to Nuit Blanche, but seeing my event made them feel represented and they came out in droves to see art that reflected their image and experience an evening specially curated for them.
From the art hung on the walls to the Afrobeat soundtrack, food that inspired memories of home, and even the naira (Nigerian currency) that was sprayed over those that commanded the dance floor and moved in a unison that may have almost seemed choreographed, Mystique Afrique claimed its place as the first African experience during Toronto’s Nuit Blanche.
